Ankara: Turkey’s parliament has approved a motion to send troops to Qatar to provide security assistance during the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Turkey’s parliament said in a statement that a motion was tabled in parliament on Saturday at Qatar’s request to deploy Turkish military personnel to Qatar for six months to provide security during the November football tournament.
The statement added that the purpose of this initiative is to take necessary measures against various threats, especially terrorism, which may affect the security of the event.
According to Turkish media reports, apart from Turkey, Pakistan, USA, France, UK and Italy will also provide security support during the World Cup in Qatar.
The report states that Qatar is facing a shortage of security personnel as it prepares for the month-long FIFA football tournament.
