Arab countries: 13 million people are suffering from poverty, United Nations

New York: 130 million (13 crore) people are suffering from poverty in Arab countries.

This was revealed in a survey released by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.

According to the Chinese news agency, in the United Nations Survey of Economic and Social Development in the Arab Region, it has been said that excluding the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Libya, one third of the population of the Arab region is affected by poverty.

The survey expects the poverty level to increase further in the next two years, reaching 36 percent of the population in 2024. Furthermore, the unemployment rate in the Arab region is recorded at 12 percent in 2022.

The GCC and other oil-exporting countries will continue to benefit from high energy prices, while oil-importing countries will suffer from a number of socioeconomic challenges, including rising energy prices, These include reduced food supplies, and reduced tourism and international aid inflows.
