Australian Economist: Suu Kyi sentenced to 3 years in prison

According to a foreign news agency, the Myanmar court has sentenced Australian economist Suu Kyi to 3 years in prison.

According to the details, a court in Myanmar under military rule has on Thursday sentenced the ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and her former economic adviser Sean Ternell to three years in prison for violating the secret law.

A source familiar with the proceedings has said that both of them pleaded not guilty to the charge of violating the Secret Act, which carries a 14-year prison sentence.

Zaria said that the punishment of three years is not a severe punishment, however, understanding the sensitivity of this matter, he has refused to identify it.
