Brazil: The supporters of the former president stormed and vandalized the parliament and the Supreme Court

Brasilia: In Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, political activists supporting the former president stormed the Parliament, the Supreme Court and the President’s House and protested strongly against the current President Lula de Silva, demanding his resignation.

According to foreign media, thousands of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro attacked and vandalized government buildings. On this occasion, fierce clashes took place between the security forces and the protesters, during which heavy shelling was fired.

After several hours of struggle, the security forces managed to free the protesters from the three buildings, while the police detained hundreds of people.

President Lula de Silva called it an act of fanaticism and announced that those involved would be severely punished and deployed the army to the capital.

Meanwhile, former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is abroad, strongly condemned the incident instead of supporting it, denying the allegations of inciting the protesters to attack the Parliament.

Jair Bolsonaro was defeated in the October 2022 presidential election in Brazil, whereupon he rejected the election results and went abroad. He has accused the election rigging.

The United States, France and the United Nations have condemned the incident and called the attack on democratic institutions unacceptable.

It should be noted that Lula de Silva was disqualified and sentenced to prison in corruption cases, but all her charges were canceled and she was allowed to participate in the 2022 elections, in which she won by a very narrow margin.
