Chinese President Xi Jinping has nominated Li Qiang as the country’s prime minister in the annual session of the parliament.
Li Qiang, a former chief of the Communist Party in Shanghai, will replace current Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
Li Qiang, 63, is a close aide of the Chinese president, having served as Xi Jinping‘s chief of staff from 2004 to 2007, when Xi was the provincial party chairman in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Technically, Li Qiang was named prime minister in October last year as he was then given the second-highest position in the Politburo Standing Committee.
