Egypt launches pilot program to teach Chinese in middle schools

Cairo: A ceremony was held at the University’s Confucius Institute to launch a pilot program to teach Chinese in middle schools in Egypt and a training program for Egyptian teachers.

During the event, Zhang Ta, charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said in a video message that 12 public middle schools in Egypt will be included in the pilot program, which will be a new starting point for Chinese language training in Egyptian middle schools. .

In September 2020, China and Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding to teach Chinese as an optional secondary foreign language in Egyptian primary and secondary schools, according to Zhang.

He added that China and Egypt have made great progress in cooperation between schools, vocational education, joint skills training and cooperation in scientific research.

Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Megahad, has said that Egypt and China have strengthened their cooperation in the field of education in recent years.

He said that thanks to the joint efforts of both parties, the pilot program has been launched a year ahead of schedule, adding that he hopes the program will help Egyptian citizens learn more about China. .
