Iran’s football team did not play its national anthem in a match against England in the FIFA World Cup to show solidarity with the protesters against the death of a girl in custody in Iran.

According to a foreign news agency, all 11 players of the Iranian football team stood silently in protest at the Iranian national anthem before the match due to the crackdown of the government security forces against the ongoing demonstrations and protesters in Iran.
Today Iran’s first match in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar was against England at the Khalifa International Stadium, in which Iran lost 2-6.
The captain of the Iranian football team expressed solidarity with the Iranian protesters during a press conference in Doha yesterday.

He said that we hope that things will change as per public wishes and everyone will be happy.
It should be noted that protests have been going on since September 17 in Iran against the death of a girl in custody.
22-year-old Mehsa Amini, who was arrested on September 13 for violating the hijab law, died on September 16 due to a suspected heart attack.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Group, 378 protesters have been killed, including 47 children, in the ongoing protests since September 17.
According to the human rights group, the security forces have arrested more than 15 thousand protesters across the country.
