Former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo's appeal against his sentence dismissed

Lima: The Supreme Court of Peru rejected the appeal against the 18-month prison sentence given to former President Pedro Castillo on charges of rebellion. Travel ban has been imposed.

Castillo’s lawyer, while criticizing the court’s decision, said that his client did not commit crimes that would lead to rebellion and the sentence given to him is baseless.

On the other hand, the country has been in turmoil over the impeachment and removal of the former president, with widespread protests in Peru following Castillo’s arrest in what many described as a coup attempt.
