New Delhi: A man dressed as Santa Claus was beaten up by a mob of Hindu extremists in a residential area of Vadodara in the Indian state of Gujarat.
According to Indian media reports, a man dressed as Santa Claus was distributing chocolates in a residential area of Mukarpura to share the joy of Christmas when he was tortured by a mob of Hindu extremists present there.
Police confirmed the incident and said Hindu extremists objected to him distributing chocolates, following which a clash broke out between the two communities. Later, members of the Christian community contacted the police after the incident and asked for security in the area.
On the other hand, according to the Chhattisgarh Christian Forum, more than 100 people, including women, have taken shelter in a stadium in Narayanpur, while many people were accommodated in other places, including churches.
Earlier yesterday, the Hindu organization claimed the historic Shahi Eid Gah Mosque as the birthplace of Shri Krishna and filed a claim for ownership of 13.37 acres of land to build a temple, on which the court ordered a survey of the mosque.
