New Delhi: At least 23 people were killed by lightning during monsoon rains in eastern India.
Officials said the deaths in Bihar state occurred between Wednesday and Friday during severe weather, with the victims mostly farmers and labourers. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences over the deaths and promised compensation to the families of the victims.
According to the Bihar Disaster Management Authority, 11 people died in several parts of the state on Friday, adding to the 13 deaths in the last two days.
