Indonesia shook by a terrible earthquake, casualties

Jakarta: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra, killing two people, injuring 15 and destroying more than a dozen houses.

According to the World News Agency, an earthquake caused havoc in the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The intensity of the earthquake was 5.9 on the Richter scale.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 13 km in Saibolga, 43 km from the island of Sumatra.

As soon as the tremors were felt, the residents came out of their houses and gathered in the field. During the relief operations, two aftershocks of magnitude 5.0 were felt.

15 people were injured in the earthquake, two of whom died on reaching the hospital, while the death toll is expected to increase due to the critical condition of the other four injured. 20 houses were totally destroyed.

Earthquakes are common in the Indonesian island of Sumatra. In February this year, 25 people were killed and more than 450 injured in a 6.2-magnitude earthquake, while in January last year, more than 100 people died and 7,000 were injured in an earthquake of the same magnitude around were injured.
