NDTV, a channel critical of the BJP government, was bought by a friend of Modi

New Delhi: India’s well-known journalist Ravish Kumar, who has openly criticized the Modi government, has revealed in his article that New Delhi Television Network (NDTV) has been bought by Gautam Adani, the world’s third richest man. .

In an article written for Al Jazeera, Indian journalist Ravish Kumar said that by buying a news channel which is considered to be a strong voice against the Modi government in India, freedom of press and democracy have been strangled.

He wrote in his article that the third richest person in the world Gautam Adani’s wealth has increased since 2014 i.e. after Narendra Modi’s government came to power, while he is also his close associate. Gautam Adani’s wealth increased from 7 billion dollars to 110 billion dollars in 2014.

Ravishan further said in his article that through Gautam Adani, the Modi government has also gained control over the last major independent voice of the Indian media. How can a capitalist whose success depends on government contracts criticize the government? He coined the term “Gudi Media” for those who raise their voices in favor of Modi in India, which became very popular.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the first to own several major media channels in the country, where the achievements of the Modi government continue to be vociferously mentioned. The Modi government’s dominance of the media has raised important questions about the control of a few investors over freedom of expression worldwide.

It is further written in the article that even in the United States and the United Kingdom, the media falling into the hands of a few billionaires is considered a threat to modern democracy, but for good journalism, money is also necessary, but it also needs freedom.

It should be noted that Ravish Kumar, associated with NDTV for 25 years and known for fearlessly criticizing the rulers, had announced his resignation after Gautam Adani became its owner.
