Pakistan: A sign of climate change, the harmless mosquito has started spreading malaria

Islamabad: Due to climate change, the harmless mosquito has also started spreading malaria in Pakistan.

The Directorate of Malaria Control claims that due to climate change, the traditional malaria-carrying mosquito has disappeared in Pakistan. In flood-prone areas of Pakistan, the “Anaphylis pulcheri mosquito” is spreading malaria where it did not previously.

The Federal Director of Malaria Control, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, said in this regard that it is most likely that this year due to extreme heat and floods, our traditional mosquito which spreads malaria has disappeared, malaria is spreading 5 to 10 times faster in flooded areas.

Dr. Mohammad Mukhtar says that the Center for Disease Control has sent the samples of the new mosquito to the United States for DNA and blood tests, and the authorities of the American and World Health Organization are also conducting research on new developments regarding malaria.

The Federal Director of Malaria Control says that due to the emergence of a new mosquito, a new malaria control strategy will have to be created.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health officials, 5 million suspected cases of malaria have been reported so far this year.
