Philippine President Marcos Jr. fired the country’s military chief.
President Marcos Jr. appointed Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bucaro as the military chief of staff 5 months ago.
The military chief’s term was to end in August 2025, but the Philippine president dismissed him without giving any reason.
The president appointed Lt. Gen. Andres Centeno, who was due to retire next month, as military chief of staff.
According to a foreign news agency, the sacked General Buckaro said the army would support the new chief.
During the change of command today at the Central Military Camp, Lt. Gen. Buckaro handed over the sword to the new Chief, Lt. Gen. Santino. He thanked the army and the president.
