Washington: A woman incarcerated in the United States has won a claim against the police for causing an abortion due to not being taken to the hospital in time due to pregnancy pains.
According to the international news agency, the American court has ordered the prison administration to pay a fine of 480 thousand dollars to the petitioner, the victim, Sandra Quinos, in a case of pregnancy loss.
The victim stated in the petition that she was incarcerated in the Orange County Jail on a probation violation in 2016 and was pregnant at the time. I was being taken to the hospital because of the labor pains, but on the way the policemen stopped at a Starbucks for coffee.
“I kept complaining of pain and asking to go to the hospital early, but the officials kept having fun and drinking coffee and I was delayed by 2 hours in reaching the hospital and as a result I had to have an abortion,” Sandra Quinones added.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors agreed to the court’s decision and agreed to pay $480,000 to the victim. The woman’s case was initially dismissed by a federal court in October 2020 but reinstated by an appeals court last year.
