Washington: Republican leader Kevin McCarthy was elected the Speaker of the US House of Representatives by receiving 216 votes.

According to foreign media, McCarthy’s opponent, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, received 212 votes.

According to reports, US President Joe Biden has congratulated McCarthy after being elected as the speaker.

According to the news agency, McCarthy was elected as the speaker in the 15th term in the US House of Representatives.

According to foreign media, McCarthy’s votes increased in the 13th round as compared to the previous rounds.
