ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has announced a one-year paid leave for government employees to conduct personal business.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the government has decided to give a year’s leave with pay to government employees of federal institutions to start their own business. The decision will come into effect from January 2023.
The employee who gets the leave will have the option to include his annual leave and unpaid leave as well. The plan was approved by the Emirati Cabinet under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the Emirates, in July this year.
Under the first-of-its-kind scheme in the world, government employees will be able to try their hand at business. Officials say that the project aims to benefit the economy of the Emirates in the future.
