DUBAI: An Emirati father and son fell into a pit filled with deep rainwater while hiking in a mountainous area in the UAE.

Suleman Al-Shahi, brother of Emirati citizen Sultan Marzouq Al-Shahi, said that he had spoken to his brother on the phone before the accident. He had told that he was taking his family for a walk in the valley.

The Emirati national went to an area called Shaam in Ras Al Khaimah. Shaha valley is famous there. This is a mountainous area. The family chose a site for the tent near Mount Jess. They thought that place was safe. After eating, the 13-year-old son went to a nearby place to wash his hands, where he fell into a pit filled with rainwater. Meanwhile, the mother started crying and screaming. A 39-year-old Emirati national went to save his son, but he also fell into the pit.

Neither of them had any idea that the crater would be so deep in the desert and mountainous terrain. There was no safety net around the pit. Later, rescue teams reached the spot and pulled out the bodies of the father and son from the deep pit.
